High Heels/ What a woman should be
Updated: May 21, 2020
High heels, or what we perceive as high heels are the shoes that were originally created to be worn by men. This can be traced from the 15th century where royal and aristocrats from different parts of the world wore them for various reasons.
I chose this subject to discuss because recently I came upon a book entitled ‘High heels, Fashion, Femininity& Seduction’ and it struck me that people associate this upon called name high heels to these three main categories in a woman. I can say that after almost two years living abroad and following a fashion-related course at school, my perception of femininity and what a woman should look like change dramatically. So I decided after reading the book to try and make an informative article where I can explain how I view this particular subject.
Like I said previously, the ‘high heels’ were first made to be worn by man, proclaiming them with a higher status than the normal average people at that time. In the 15th century, Persia soldiers wore them to ensure their feet in stirrups. Afterward, in 17th century it became a symbol of the upper-class figures in Europe, mostly in Venice where the heel was so high that sometimes it could reach around 54cm. Those were worn underneath the cloths to make women taller and because the shoes where hidden underneath all the cloth it symbolizes a higher status since a lot more cloth was required to make a dress.
These are some facts that history provided to us when looking back at what we thought we knew about shoes and so-called ‘high heels’.
Obviously, though time the term changed its meaning at the same time the look of the shoe did.
As a woman, I despise the fact that high heeled shoe symbolise how a woman dresses to impress and conquer a man’s attention. It may look like, this is all that we care about and need.
The psychological aspect of them is thou understandable, a high heel not only transforms the outline of the foot but it extends the leg as well. From antiquity, we can see this pattern where a human taller then the rest is viewed as more powerful than the others.
A woman is more powerful in heels, not physical but psychological. The thought that you are not at your normal status in high, that you are higher than the rest not by inches but by thought it is amazingly satisfying. You conduct yourself with an attitude that preserves self-conscienceless.
It is true that in today’s society, cultural behavior enables people to believe that by wearing higher heels, as a woman you are more attractive and provocative. ing proper shoes 'high heels'.
It is true that in today’s society, the cultural behaviour enables people to believe that by wearing higher heels, as a woman you are more attractive and provocative.
I recently discovered that, indeed, when wearing some types of higher shoes the body moves and rotates differently to help to balance the walk, by having a greater pelvic rotation, increased vertical motion at the hip and the strides are shorter with a higher number of steps per minute.
It is amazing when you think of it, that an object can alter the human body and mind. Man believes a woman transforms herself and fulfills a fantasy that is required by the society.
It is completely untrue therefore that this is the only motivation given to a woman by wearing high heels.
Recently I read an article where the name Christian Louboutin came. I think everyone knows about the infamous designer as the creator of the red bottom high heel. His shoes are one of the most iconic ones, and there are desired by many women. Therefore when asked what he believes is the most attractive aspect of a woman in high heels, he responded with speed. One can ask themselves, what does he mean by speed? Apparently, a woman is slowed down by high heels, giving men easily access looking upon them.
Art is beautiful and forever questionable.

‘What is the point of running? … I am all for the pace getting slower, and high heels are good for that.’
High heels and whatever clothes women decide to wear should be classified only as a preferred preference, not by a social standard that the society think it's ethical.
And I have to ask myself, when are we, woman, gonna receive the respect and power without ditching the ‘girly’ parts?
Should feminism be oppressed because we love the color pink, or that we love to dress in skirts and dresses, or that ultimately we desire to wear high heels?
